pre-detox

Internet's out at home, so no pics today.

Gayle and I are doing this detox diet week next week, so we're in the pre-detox phase this week.  That means no caffeine, no sugar, no simple carbs, no bread, no flour, did I mention no sugar or anything resembling sugar?

It's been interesting, and not too hard, except that I'm broke and it turns out that unprocessed foods are kind of expensive.  I started tapering off the caffeine last week, so apart from sleeping a lot this weekend and some minor headaches my first coffee-free day, I've been fine.

I'm excited, because it's one of my summer goals to be free from caffeine addiction, and I think I'm there!

Sisterknits and Gayle

When Elinor Sisterknits found out about the Japanese Dollar Store (Ichiban Kan: Different Things), she insisted on going, so Japantown was our first stop in SF.

We went with Gayle, and took the BART and bus to Japantown, and Sisterknits spent a nice bundle on $1 and $2 Japanese treasures.  The great thing was that she was able to get gifts for all her friends, as well as for herself, spending as much as she might have spent on one gift somewhere else.

Of course, I made them pose in the Godzilla/Sumo scene, as is our tradition, and then we went to the Fillmore neighborhood for delicious pizza and a lucrative Goodwill shopping experience.

Sisterknits was surprised that she liked Gayle so much.  They got along really well, and I think SK was surprised because she hadn't realized how much Gayle is like Lydia, one of SK's best friends.

There is no lack of silliness and laughter at our place, and now SK has experienced that first-hand.  You would too, if you came to visit, so don't be shy!  We have a great couch for sleeping!

I'm just about recovered from the end of year stress.  I know I've said that before, but now it's true.  I started work in the Dean's office the day after Sisterknits left, and I've been coming home after work to thick novels and netflix dvds and lots of kitty cuddles.

I'm not going to church tomorrow...well, at least not my church.  I may go somewhere else, maybe to Gayle's church, but I think I need a week or two away from the church where I work if I'm really taking the summer off.  It's kind of exciting to get to go to other services once in a while, and really exciting to have the option of sleeping in on a Sunday!

We took these pictures while waiting for our table at Chevy's, our favorite fajita spot.

Yes, I know, we live in the Bay Area, and there are tons of independent Mexican restaurants here, but you know what?  Because there are so many, the quality really varies, and it's hard to find one that we really love.

So, we go to a chain.  So kill us.  It's good, and it has a dock on the bay!

So, it turns out I didn't take as many pictures of Sisterknits as I should have while she was visiting. 

We just got too caught up in what we were doing to remember to take pictures.

She left on Tuesday night, after a whirlwind 4 days, which is really not long enough for a good visit, but was enough for her to get a taste of Berkeley and San Fran, and to meet a bunch of my friends and of course, my kitty kitterton.  The weather was great while she was here, not as cold as it was forcasted to be.  Now it is cool and cloudy, just in time for the holiday weekend.

Adventures

Sorry about the silence for the past few days.  We've been having lots of adventures with Sisterknits here, not the least of which was losing Deacon for 24 hours.

It was very scary, and there was much searching in the neighborhood, but Gayle found him last night in our across-the-hall neighbor's pantry!!

Crazy.

D.O.N.E.

Ahhh...

I finished the take home final from hell yesterday at 11:30 am, and slept all afternoon.  Then, I had dinner with some parishioners and then...

I got to knit!!!  I went to St*rbucks (I know, I know, it's evil, but no one makes a soy chai like they do!), listened to Cast-On and the Puppini Sisters, and knit my little heart out.

As you can see, my thermal sweater is coming along, albeit pretty slowly.  Who would have guessed that knitting a whole sweater with sock yarn would take time?  I think I have about 6 more inches to go before I have to do any shaping, so it's just around and around in pattern. 

Perhaps I'll have more time to knit this summer, and I may even get it finished before I need it in November!

I wonder if he went to seminary?  That might explain his predicament.

Apparently, the wheel (which was made of swords, by the way) didn't kill him, and he was eventually beheaded.

I am here to tell you that the wheel is not going to kill me either, if I have anything to say about it!

I just have one paper left--the take home final from hell--and my goal is to start and finish it tomorrow!

5:30 AM

I have 1,967 words.  My goal is 3,000. 

The sky is just beginning to turn from black to dark blue, and I know the sun will be coming up soon.  The birds started singing about an hour ago, and Deacon is sleeping soundly in my bed, where I wish I could be.

two hours til breakfast, and I really need a shower.

OK, i know you want something--some news, some pictures, perhaps even some KNITTING CONTENT!!!

Sorry to disappoint.

I've had a sucky week, and as this week ahead is finals week, the suck shall continue.  I'm pulling an all-nighter tonight for a paper that's due in the morning, and it don't end there.  You get the picture.

However, I have been knitting, and I will show you progress pics soon, whenever I can get some good light to take them.  I know I have been a bad blogger so far this month, but once I'm done with finals, I'll be back to my old self, I promise!

p.s. Happy Mother's Day to all the people who have mothered me--you know who you are!

One paper down, three to go, and then...

FREEDOM!

I can't wait for summer.  And, the day after classes end, Sisterknits will be coming for a long weekend visit!  She is finishing up her first semester of community college this week, and I think she deserves a reward.  Hopefully we'll find some fun things to do.

Perhaps some folk dancing??

Cordelia and Gayle to the rescue!

Here's an update for those of you paying attention to the saga of Deacon's trauma.  Through some great detective work and careful observation, we figured out what he was afraid of, and it didn't have anything to do with goblins.

Turns out he is suddenly terrified of my shoes.

yes, shoes.

You see, next to the doorway to my room is the dresser, and all my shoes get piled around the dresser.  Neatly piled.  We realized that he was afraid of going past the shoes, and that's why he was avoiding the doorway.

Once I hid all the shoes, he was able to walk in and out of my room with only a slight pause to make sure the shoes were really gone!

So, hopefully that traumatic episode is over.  He seems to be recovering well.  The only problem is that now my shoes are all piled at the foot of my bed, hidden under pillows, and that's not very convenient.  I'll have to figure out another way to organize them.
