So, I thought I would write today about the various social knitting groups I'm in, but then I realized that would be a much more interesting post if it had pictures, so I'll take some this afternoon and tomorrow and then talk about it.
Today is Saturday, and the first Saturday in a long time that is actually a real day off for me! Technically, my days off are Friday and Saturday, but not only am I often writing a sermon on Saturday, lately I've had to work a lot of saturdays...giving workshops, hosting a youth group lock-in, attending meetings, etc. Last Saturday I didn't have to work, but it was my birthday and I was flying back to California after a (too short) birthday trip, so it didn't really feel like a day off. Maybe that means that for me, a real day off means being able to sleep in and then cuddle kitties in bed for as long as I want, then staying in my pj's most of the day, knitting and cooking and making art and generally not having to leave the house or think too much.
I'm very thankful that today is just such a day. Tomorrow is going to be a Monster day at church...Easter Egg decorating party before church, morning service, lenten book study class, prayerful knitting group, an ecclesiastical council, my installation council, my installation service, and my installation party! It will easily be a 12+ hour day, with no breaks in between events. So, all that to say that I am doubly glad I have a day off today!
Deacon loves days off even more than I do. He gets unlimited lap sitting and snuggling, gets to come in and out of the house as much as he wants, and he gets kitty treats and belly rubs throughout the day!
Nisse is my new kitten, and he's not very into people. He doesn't let me pet or hold him unless it's dark and he can't see me coming, but he ADORES Deacon. He always wants to wrestle and chase his big brother, and when they get tired of that,. Nisse loves to snuggle up to Deacon...which Deacon usually allows after a few compulsory growls. So, I think Nisse probably doesn't love it when I am home all day because he doesn't have his brother all to himself, and when Deacon is on my lap, Nisse can't cuddle him.
I am holding out hope that someday Nisse will love me too, but since I got him so Deacon could have a companion, I can't really complain. He is a great addition to the household.
Today I do plan on getting dressed and going out, because I have my Saturday knitting group at a local coffee shop. That's just about the only thing I am willing to get dressed for on a day like today! Until then...more knitting!
