Liz and I are in Portland, OR this week, for the Public Library Association Conference, and yesterday while she was stuck in the hotel room working, I got to enjoy a warm and sunny spring day in downtown Portland! Tiny leaves are just starting to peek out of their buds, so the trees all look like they are dusted with green glitter. I walked in a park, read a book outside a cafe, and then wound up my afternoon at the hotel's restaurant in their outdoor seating, knitting near a very interesting fire pit and snacking on tiramisu.
The fire pits are filled with chinks of yellow and brown glass, which made a perfect background for my current simple knitting project! I'm knitting a shawlette in Shibui Baby Alpaca, my own pattern. It starts with a wide garter stitch triangle, and then I'll add a knitted-on lace edge along the short sides. Just a little something cozy for around my neck during chilly desert evenings.
My other knitting this trip includes a drop stitch scarf in a linen/mohair yarn that I'm knitting as a sample for my lys, and some beautiful fingerless mitts in Shibui Sock for a swap I'm doing. Of course, today I plan to visit some Portland yarn stores, so I will likely come home with more yarn and more projects in the wings!
I did finish my Olympic Sweater, by the way, only about three weeks late! I plan to wear it today, so hopefully I can get some good pics for you. I don't really know what I was thinking, That sweater was a lot of work, and I really never had a prayer of finishing it in 17 days! Next time, I will try to be more realistic with my knitting deadline goals.
I also recently knit a sweet little hat for my friend DonnaLynda, who I get to hang out with while I'm in Portland, and I'm going to try to convince her to model it for you today. DL and Liz and I went out for a lovely Italian dinner last night, and although we ate until we were stuffed, we still came home with what seems like pounds of leftovers! Thankfully we have a fridge in the room.
I'm crossing my fingers for another beautiful day today, exploring Portland and enjoying my dear friend. Hope your day is just as beautiful and fun!
